The Poem “About the Author”

Michael33

Welcome to “The Vision of Poets”

I know that my wonderful gravatar photo is not the most becoming picture.  However… It very explicitly depicts the emotions that have existed during a very large portion of my life.

Poetry is an expression of feelings, emotions, life’s sorrows and life’s pleasures.  Writing should bring happiness and gratification to the writer as an outlet for expressing their desires, their hopes, their fantasies, their euphoria, their wonder, and their tearful moments of sadness.  Join in the conversations with your own reasons for writing poetry or let us know what stirs your soul while absorbing one’s feelings through words

I have had several inquiries as to the possibility that one or more of my poems is about the person that inquired.  I truly cannot answer that.  Perhaps it is.  Perhaps not.  I could say that ‘if the poem fits…..”  What I can say about it is that if you are questioning whether or not a certain poem is about you… perhaps you should take a long look into the mirror and ask yourself that very question.

Most all of the poems posted on this site are reflections of experiences within my own life and are not in any way directed toward any person or persons other than myself… (well… there is that one poem… you know… the one with the jackass in the picture) but I can assure you that anyone reading this blog is not the subject of that poem.  Well… umm… Actually… There may be one or two other poems that were inspired by someone posting comments, but they are expressing positive emotions so they should enjoy exploring that possibility.

Sometimes my strange ideas aren’t exactly as interesting to the readers as I had hoped that they would be, but I thought I would try once again to do something a little different.  I appreciate you visiting The Poem “About the Author” page.

 The Poem
“About the author…”

(An Autobiography?)

I tried to touch the clouds one time
On a clear blue day in June
I climbed the tallest tree I found
Hoping to touch the moon

I left the earth in a cardboard box
Exploring the unknown
Searching for that distant place
Where I’d not feel alone

I wandered wooded valley paths
In search of buried treasure
Finding there amongst the trees
A wealth of childhood pleasures

I learned to fly when I was five
Without the wings of planes
I travelled cross the country side
Above the fields of grain

I disliked school my entire life
Bored completely numb
The councelors and teachers
Just labeled me as dumb

No need to chase your dreams young man
My ‘guidance’ councelor chimed
You’ll never be as good as me
Your life will never rhyme

Believing what he had to say
I threw in all the towels
And spent my time in tops of trees
Conversing with the owls

I won’t name names, but his was Phil
In a position to condemn
I became uniquely strange
While he’s just one of ‘them’

Finding nowhere that I fit
I wasted many days
Then I found direction
Guarding coasts upon the waves

College days were much more sane
Scientific explorations
Philosophy of circumstance
Surpassing expectations

The children came to share the light
With love and light and sadness
Added to, subtracted from
Life’s certainty of madness

Through the years of growing
We sometimes drift apart
And sometimes make decisions
That really aren’t that smart

The second time to wed someone
With love I’d never felt
Strangely I was happy
With the cards that I was delt

Too young for expectations
Of lying in a bed
With staples up and down my chest
Enduring close to dead

Recovery would have been in vain
If not for one who cared
My heart grew far beyond what’s known
For love we found to share

Then the evil crept inside
Growing poisoned arrows
Infecting lymphs, the throat and more
Survival somewhat narrow

For therapy they radiate
My throat was nearly closed
The pain increased by damage done
From rules that they imposed

After all is said and done
The taste of food is gone
Swallowing is difficult
And the illness lingers on

Escaping thoughts of ‘what might be’
I searched for mental calm
Finding not a shred of hope
But sparrows in my palm

Then I found poetic verse
Deep within my head
And knew that it could not remain
As something left unsaid

The light has shined upon my face
As readers find my page
Their comments and their brilliant prose
Has built a brand new stage

The shyness so ingrained in me
Dampened by their light
Friendships built upon these words
Has placed some hope in sight

I’ve been told throughout my life
I’m somewhat strange within
Some just think I’m downright weird
Or maybe polar twins

I’ll assume the word unique
Is best to be construed
Unless of course there’s other times
Where I become unscrewed

I don’t believe aloneness
Can ever be consoled
Instilled too deep from circumstance
That lies beyond control

I guess I really have it all
While love at home still climbs
With readers from around the world
That like poetic rhyme

Now, I don’t fit in cardboard boxes
Or climb big trees it seems
But you can always find me here….
Still chasing after dreams

    • I’m honored that you’re looking around Kurt. The writing has definitely been good therapy for me as well as reading as much as I can from some of the great sites that surround us with meaningful realities of life. It occupies the mind so completely. I’ve spent a great deal of time on your site absorbing your work. I love the insights you share of your perspective on life. Many terrific expressions fill your pages. Thanks for visiting…..

    • Danica…
I am so very humbled that you have enjoyed my poetry enough to nominate this site for the award. I’m extremely honored and I thank you with all my heart. I’m so new at this that I’m not sure I would be able to figure out how to abide by some of the rules with the posting of the logo and linking to the sites that I would nominate. I haven’t attempted anything like that yet, but I’ll certainly start trying to figure it out. Again… Thank you so very much and I’m honored that you have been a faithful follower of my sometimes off the wall posts.

    • Thank you Georgetteann… I thought the previous one was much too serious and a little on the boring side. I could hear visitors as they read it going, “blah, blah, blah”… So I decided to brighten it up a bit with my strange version of an autobiography. Thanks for your visit and comment. I love the interaction between readers and writers. It’s the fun part.

    • Hi Tina. Thank you so much for your dedication to my often strangely written blog. I smile every time I see that I have a comment from you because I always enjoy them. I hope you enjoy the book. It contains some of my very favorite poems that haven’t yet seen daylight away from the publication. “White Oak Mountain” “Wildflowers” “The Work of Art” “The Ghostly Band” some of my own favorites that I think you will enjoy. Thank you from my heart…

    • Once again I bow my head in humbleness. You are such a kind, caring human being. You do realize of course, that I purposefully left out most of the really weird stuff about me in the poem? However, I’m very certain that at some moment, when I least expect it, I’ll push that ‘Publish’ button with some of the most unusual phenomena about my inner being that most have never experienced. Hmm… I think I’m feeling an urge to start writing it now. Thank you so much Audrey. I always have a great day when I receive a comment from you or read your beautiful words on your site. I’m so very glad that we can share a small part of our lives with one another, if only in writing. You have a great day and beautiful tomorrow…..

I just came from your site and your poetry is beautiful and so full of love of the spirit. I hope you continue expressing your heartfelt emotions and share them with us. I hope you find the time to explore my previous posts and find something that you enjoy. Have a beautiful evening, and again thank you for stopping by.

  6. 1st of all…. Just wondering why you say your strange ideas aren’t interesting to readers? Because no one commented? Could it be that we were too busy pondering your strange ideas or hurrying on to read the next strange idea cause we were so impressed with that one? Ya get my point! ;). PLEASE keep throwing the strange ideas at us!!

I have struggled with the idea of accepting awards, but thus far have only found myself in procrastination concerning it. I accept your nomination in great humbleness and with honor and if I am ever able to overcome my quiescence, perhaps I will be able to decide what to do. In these four short lines, you have touched upon my core. Although you were not writing this about me, it would almost seem you know me as intimately as I know myself. Thank you so very much for all of your kind words today. I’m actually still speechless over much of it and need more time to process the love you’ve shared with me. I hope you enjoy your mystical travels tonight. 🙂 Safe travels, my friend.

    • Good morning Dana Renee…
I’m so glad you found this post and that those lines touched you. I do believe that only those of us who have experienced true ‘aloneness’ can really relate to those few words and understand their deepest meaning.
Returning from my travels this morning and enjoying my first cup of coffee is certainly enhanced to find your comments awaiting me. My sleep was quite intermittent, waking often and abusing my poor pillows, but the traveling was quite enlightening.
Didn’t mean to leave you speechless with my comments… just wanted you to know that sharing love doesn’t always have to be with those standing near to us, for they often walk away when we are in are darkest hours… Reaching out to others like you do in your writing… with your heart and with your compassion, will always attract the love toward you. Processing love shared should not be too difficult… just know that you are… and feel it in your heart…
Hope your day is filled with beautiful moments…

Wow. I know this feeling actually with two marriages. For I was young; what did I know of love? A role model or two probably existed, but it would have made little impression, back in those early days.

    Second hit:

    “For therapy they radiate
    My throat was nearly closed
The pain increased by damage done
    From rules that they imposed”

Having spent a virtual lifetime as a Medical Intuitive, I can say kudos to you for understanding what lay underneath the physical malady. Even if you wonder what I’m talking about – and I doubt you do – something deep inside of you does. I trust you are well underway with your healing.

I don’t know how you found my blog, but I am thrilled to be connected, and hope it carries forward. And now, to ‘follow’ so that I might be reminded of your presence here while scrolling through my Reader 😉

Of course, I found it at the most perfect moment of needing to find a light within the shadows… and there you were. Of course… with your virtual lifetime as a medical intuitive, I suppose you already knew that would happen. I am fascinated with the ability that you hold within your soul… the wisdom of truths of the universe. I have had many insights into things that I should not know… but somehow have missed out on the medical aspect of it.
I am so very grateful to have found your site and thank you profoundly for your interaction.

I’m also mostly retired as a MI, and looking to a new profession – exciting times for me! Almost 30 years of this intense work, and now looking at getting certified in interior design, which I’ve long ‘done,’ but never professionally.
Hoping you find that way out of the darkness – though personally I love those dark times. They always remind me of the fecundity of life – the richness and depth of existence – and what would we do without contrast!? Blessings, dear.
