The Nomination

This unusually early post for me, on this Saturday, is to offer my sincere gratitude to three wonderful writers who have chosen to honor my own words with their most humbling nomination to join the family of honorees who have been chosen by their peers to receive awards.  To say that I am honored would be an understatement, for they have touched my heart with their kindness.  I truly hope that there is no statute of limitations on accepting these awards, for I am such a procrastinator.  I have also pondered the point of my indecision of who to select from all of the wonderful sites that I have visited, that would so deserve the honor of these awards, to list among my own nominees.  I have found that decision to be very difficult… so I continue to procrastinate…

The following links are to those who have honored me, provided me with encouragement, inspired me to continue writing, and allowed me to feel that my writing is not in vain.  I truly hope that the three of them and any who may also stumble upon these words, enjoy the poem that I have written in response to their most humbling nominations…

“The Nomination”

I am greatly humbled and honored
By your nomination,
For I feel that there must be so many others
Far more deserving than myself…
My emotions lie in confusion
As ‘to be or not to be’
The recipient of such prestige…
Knowing in my heart
That I am but a sparrow
Within a vast world,
Where the strength of Eagles
And the wisdom of owls prevail…
Whilst I have but a song
For my offering…

It would be far beyond
The strengths of my choosing
To select but a few to receive
Such an honor…
From what I have come to know
As bounteous numbers who have
In so many ways
Approached perfection within
Their words…
Whilst I…
Perched upon the smallest of branches…
Provide only bits of straw for the nest…

I am but a meager soul
Expressing words upon the page
From within my heart…
From within my being…
Or perhaps from other worlds…
While my whispers echo softly
Amongst a multitude of masters
Whose words speak volumously
Stirring the imaginations
Of those who long for wonderment…

At this moment I shall remain
Upon my tiny branch
Singing songs of the sparrow…
Offering mere glimpses of normalcy
And often… that of the un-normal…
Hoping that a single word
Of my utterance…
A phrase from my heart…
A verse left upon my page…
An emotion from my soul…
May somehow strike a
Beautiful chord of resonance
Within the reader of such…
And bring to them understanding
Of their own sadness…
A light to their darkness…
Or to bring to their face of somber…
A smile…
And in that moment of time…
This simple sparrow shall sing
A song more beautiful than
That of the nightingale…
And spring from this tiny branch
With the heart of a dove…

I am honored…
And I thank you…

  1. Michael, Congratulations! I’m delighted that you’ve accepted the One Lovely Blog award as well as the others. There is nobody more deserving than you. Your writing is truly beautiful and powerful, in equal measure. I hope that many more discover your blog and enjoy your works.

I’m also looking forward to visiting your nominees. I understand the selection process is very difficult as there are so many wonderful blogs. Everything in its own time 🙂

Congratulations again, Michael, and thank you.

    • Thank you Danica – Once again, it’s comments like yours that keep me writing. I’m still procrastinating on the “to do or not to do” but I’m just very honored that those who I admire so much have enjoyed my writing enough to nominate me. I’m honored and humbled and I thank you…

  2. What? I didn’t make your nomination list?!

Oh well, I’m only Shakespeare reincarnated, Sir Francis Bacon, that is, no one ever did give me any recognition….but you see, my work outlives petty nominations, which I was showered with on my other two blogs with over 4,800 WordPress followers, so it’s just as well, I dont do the awards thing!

  3. Hello there! I missed this in my absence! I am very pleased you have accepted the award 🙂 A bird flew via an open window into my house last week. Then, one of his friends joined. Two sparrows, sitting in my kitchen fluttering at the glass waiting to be free. I gently eased them out but noticed as the first left, he watched until the other sparrow was also safe outside. The sparrow is an underrated bird full of compassion and talent. A bird that just quietly goes about the world. Thank you for your mention!
